2008 Program of Work
2008 committees.
BILATERAL COMMITTEE
Co-Chairman: Jaime Chapa and Roberto Fernandez
Purpose: To work together in the joint promotion and support of our Sister
Cities, particularly in the areas of tourism and transportation and to
open lines of communication between our Chambers for the mutual benefit
of our two communities.
BY-LAWS, POLICIES, AND PROCEDURES COMMITTEE
Chairman: John Stein
Purpose: To prepare recommended by-laws changes, if any appear to be necessary,
and submit them to the Executive Committee for evaluation.
COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE
Chairman: Shannalea Taylor
Purpose: To prepare publications in support of Chamber activities.
DEL RIO BORDER PATROL WELCOME COMMITTEE
Co-Chairman: Jaime Chapa and Jane Pratt
EDUCATION COMMITTEE
Chairman: Abner Martinez
Purpose: To further advance education in Del Rio.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
Chairman: Frank H. Larson
Purpose: To create job opportunities by promoting Del Rio and Ciudad Acuña
through business recruitment and retention in the public and private sector.
LAKE COMMITTEE
Chairman: Pat Ellis
Purpose: to enhance promotion, development, economic growth and resource
preservation of Lake Amistad.
LEGISLATIVE LIAISON COMMITTEE
Chairman: Ginette Magana
Purpose: To stay abreast of matters which impact on the goals and purposes
of the Chamber from all governmental agencies and offices (federal, state,
and local) and make those offices aware of the Chamber's positions on
issues that effect the betterment of Del Rio.
LONG RANGE PLANNING COMMITTEE
Chairman: Amy Elliott
Purpose: To enhance the ability of the Chamber of Commerce to serve its
members effectively in the future.
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
Chairman:
Purpose: To obtain and retain members.
NOMINATING COMMITTEE
Chairman: John Campbell
Purpose: To select a committee to nominate Officers and Board of Directors
for the calendar year 2009.
RED CARPET AMBASSADORS
Chairman: John Allegra
Purpose: To support the Chamber of Commerce in its endeavors to expand
growth of existing businesses and to enhance business opportunities in
Del Rio; to provide members of the Chamber of Commerce a distinctive and
individualized source for advertising and publicizing their businesses.
SPECIAL PROJECTS COMMITTEE
Co-Chairmen: Amy Elliott and John Campbell
Purpose: To plan and arrange for events to raise funds for the Del Rio
Chamber of Commerce and provide food service for the Chamber special events
and projects as needed.
TOURISM & CONVENTIONS COMMITTEE
Chairmen: Blanca Larson
Purpose: To promote tourism and conventions through the effective expenditure
of Room Tax allowances provided from the City of Del Rio room tax funds.
TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE
Chairman: Jerry Simpton
Purpose: To promote and support those programs, projects and plans that
will keep Del Rio and Val Verde County in the mainstream of the transportation
systems of Texas.
WATER RESOURCE INFORMATION COMMITTEE
Chairman: Jerry Simpton
WINTER VISITOR COMMITTEE
Chairman: Barbara Plyler
Purpose: To encourage economic growth and development through special
activities for the Winter Visitors; to continue to promote "Del Rio Friendly"
and "Buy Del Rio" among local merchants, government entities, and Winter
Visitors, thus generating sales and tax revenue.
